In a way, as Grosh uses the concept of “categories” which are store agnostic groupings of groceries. The list is auto sorted according where categories are located on the path through the store. This kicks in after a few shopping trips have taken place at a location, and the users have specified the store name. The latter is required for sorting to work, as many stored might be located nearby in shopping malls. Also see this post.

When you enter a location where many purchases have taken place, the app will show a sort button top right (arrows up and down). Tap this to show a store selection screen – find the store you’re in on the list and tap it. The store name is now shown in the app header. Grosh now analyses the sequence you and all other users are swiping items – and generates a sorting of the list based on this. It gets better over time and also gradually takes into account that some items are being moved around  in the store.

Manual sorting is not possible – if you believe there’s a problem sorting the list in a particular store, please let our support know this (via the Send Message / Chat button).

By design, some info you enter for a shopping item (quantity, price, store and notes) is specific for that shopping trip and is not directly related to the grocery item type. However, if you’ve shopped an item of A particular type recently, Grosh will identify this and transfer relevant information to the new item on the list, including quantity, price, and store name. This is provided as a suggestion of how much to buy, where to buy and what price to expect.

Other information such as image, barcode, and category are closely related to the grocery item type and is stored in the system. This information will always be shown when adding new items of the same type.

Remember not to delete the items when they have been bought, but swipe right to mark them as bought. Otherwise everything stored related to the item will be deleted including barcodes, images, and category!

Grosh does not run in the background, so it consumes no power except for when you’re using the app. It fetches your geoposition briefly once when you start swiping items, so that’s a minimal drain on your battery. Grosh disables automatic screen off, so you don’t have to worry about unlocking the phone all the time while you’re shopping. Of course, having the app open / screen on for a long period of time means some battery drain, no more more than any ordinary app open for the same period of time.

Go to the Select list screen, then tap the “pen” icon the the right of the list name. If you’re the person who created a list, you may remove / delete it by tapping the Delete button. Take care, as this is an irreversible action. If you’ve joined a list created by another user, you can only leave the list, not delete it.
