Grosh ships with a bunch of groceries in what we call the standard dictionary. This means that you just have to type a few characters in the text field above the grocery list to find the most typical groceries, just tap the item to add it to the shopping list. In general, most data in Grosh is crowdsourced by the users. When a number of users have added a new grocery item, it gets included in the standard dictionary of grocery items available to all users – so they don’t have to manually enter the entire item name. This way, Grosh gets smarter and smarter the more users that use the system. Of course, we thought of multi-language support from the start, so just select the language for grocery items under Settings, and you are using the standard dictionary of your local language.
Do we need to create an account for each device to use Grosh?
On the first device starting Grosh, choose to create an account with a username and password. On subsequent units you can reuse the same login. However, if more than one person in the household does grocery shopping, we recommend creating separate logins. This allows the system to log and display who has done the shopping and it also allows you to have private shopping lists and share shopping lists outside the household, such as shopping for your place of work.
Can I get rid of some suggestions?
Grosh normally provides useful suggestions, but sometimes you just happened to buy something without using Grosh. This makes it hard for Grosh to keep record of your grocery stock, so try always to use Grosh 🙂 Anyway, we know it happens, so here is the solution: if you start get a suggestion for stuff you know you don’t need, there is now an easy way to make Grosh stop suggesting it – just swipe LEFT on the suggestion screen (similar to deleting on the grocery list). Suggestions that have not been bought for a longer period are automatically removed from the suggestion screen.
What’s the meaning of the colours on the suggestion screen?
Grosh has calculated you need items marked red. Orange items are already on the shopping list and green items are other items you buy often.
How does Grosh know what I need?
Grosh learns your habits by analysing your shopping trips. It looks for recurring purchases and calculates if there are groceries you need, based on your past behaviour. After some weeks, Grosh will show a light bulb icon top right of the orange grocery shopping list. Pressing it will bring you to the suggestion screen. Items with critically low stock are marked red in the suggestion list.
If you don’t add items to Grosh and mark them as purchased, there is no data to analyse and Grosh can’t make suggestions. Whenever you realize you’re missing an item, open the app and start typing at the top, and grosh shows matching groceries you can pick. Using the picklist ensures you spell items the same way – this helps Grosh figure out it’s a recurring purchase. Or use the suggestion screen to swipe items directly over to the grocery shopping list without typing at all.
